INTRODUCTION

People and Stories is a Portsmouth-based creative company, making and supporting cultural activities for UK communities.  We celebrate people, places, and stories, and we take a creative approach to discussing environmental sustainability.

Led by Portsmouth creative director and artist Scott Ramsay, People and Stories is currently active across 35 regions of the UK, reaching over 100,000 participants through supported work. Its work is focused on creating work and generating reach, largely to families, young people, and under-served communities.

One strand of work is Creative Harbour - an initiative to generate more arts activity to the conurbations surrounding Portsmouth and Langstone Harbours, a micro-region of 515,000 residents where only 50% of communities are currently engaged in cultural activity.

People and Stories is led by Scott Ramsay, a creative director and theatre-maker, based in Portsmouth and practicing across the UK. He’s fortunate to have enjoyed over 30 years of creating and presenting work with numerous companies, including Chester Gateway, the Edinburgh Festival, English Touring Theatre, Harlow Playhouse, the National Theatre, New Theatre Royal Portsmouth, Perth Theatre, Phoenix Dance Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the BBC and Grampian TV, and over 70 independent arts venues, nationally and internationally.

Scott is an acclaimed writer and director of family-friendly productions. Alongside his theatre work he has written and developed courses for Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and University West of England and was previously Business Advisor for Arts and Business South-West, and Trustee of Bristol’s Kingswood Foundation/Creative Youth Network.

Originally from Scotland, Scott has been based in Portsmouth for the last four years where he has brought over 1,000 experiences to over 180,000 participants, with the New Theatre Royal, Festival of the Sea, FLUX: Festival of Dance and Visual Theatre, and numerous family-focused projects.
